Days 11-13. Trip to Guruvayur

Our first night in Kannur was stiflingly hot. It was really hard to get a good nights sleep ! The next morning we were ALL ( ie us, KJ, Nik & the girls, Niks parents, Nithya and her 3 boys) up early for a family trip to the Guruvayer. Temple. An important place for Hindus in this area.

It was important to Niks Mum that she could take the girls to be weighed at this temple in an ancient ritual called Tulabhara, They were each weighed with butter, and the equivalent amount is donated to the temple. Non Hindus are not allowed into the temple, so it was just Nik, his Mum, Hollie and Asha there, while Dave, KJ & I perused the many stalls surrounding the temple area. Definitely no photos allowed !

This was an important time and there were 1000's of people there, all dressed up in their beautiful clothes. The queues were loooooonnng. And the temperature was in the mid 30s.

After a break back at the hotel to cool off, we thought it would be good to take all the kids out for a bit of fun. (Our 2 and Niks sisters 3 boys. Darshun, Arush, and Krish and Amama too)

First stop was the place where the temple elephants are kept - at least 20 of them !!

We loved watching the elephants having a hose down, and when one lay right down on her side for her wash, we were invited to give her a pat !

Next was a visit to Marine World. A fairly new attraction, really well displayed.

And the grandmas

And seeing as the kids had all been really good- finished off with a 3D simulator ride (which Hollie hated and the boys loved) and a quick dodgem car ride.

We delivered everyone safely back to the hotel. Hot and tired but happy.  KJs girls were pretty quickly into bed, so we had room service dinners in our room, so Asha could sleep.

Next morning after breakfast, we quickly went back to the shopping area and picked up some items that we had seen the day before.

Shopping at the stalls

Random shop signs

Then it was back into the cars for the 5 1/2 hour drive back to Kannur. Had the Indian equivalent of KFC for tea.  Still bloody hot!
